Gabriele d’Annunzio was an Italian author, poet, playwright, and journalist. During his time at this villa, he named it "La Schiffanoia", meaning "Far from Boredom". In the late 1870s, the original owner of the villa commissioned Gustave Eiffel to design the iron gates which surround the property.
