This modest looking home shielded by two trees near Brentwood, California was the former home of legendary Los Angeles gangster Mickey Cohen.


Cohen, a known associate of Jewish gangsters, Meyer Lansky and Benjamin “Bugsy” Siegel became the boss of the LA crime syndicate following the shooting death of Ben Siegel in 1947.

On Aug. 2, 1949, Jack Dragna, one of Mickey’s rivals, ordered his men to go to Cohen’s home in the middle of the night and place several sticks of dynamite under his house. At 4:00am they lit the fuse and blew the roof of the joint.

Luckily for Cohen he was at the other side of the house when the explosion occurred and was not injured.
