On Friday 7th October 2022, James N8JEP and Ray K8ITU, radio amateurs from Virginia and West Virginia respectively, reached the summit of Gay Knob and activated this summit on the amateur radio bands for the Summits on the Air (“SOTA”) group.

They made 14 contacts in total working on the 2 metre VHF and the 40 and 15 metre HF amateur radio bands.

The summit of Gay Knob is 1395 metres (4577 feet) asl. It has a rating of 10 points on the SOTA group database.
