This is Gelsenkirchen Scholven, a part of the Ruhr Oel refinery.
Ruhr Oel GmbH (ROG) is a 50:50 joint venture between Deutsche BP and Petróleos de Venezuela S.A. (PdVSA).
Gelsenkirchen Horst (the other part of the site) und Scholven has got a crude oil distillation capacity of 12.9 million tonnes per year. Number 2 in Germany!
At Scholven site there are also petrochemical Plants, produce for example Ethen and Propen (called olefine). These are used as starting products for the manufacture of plastics etc.
