1945 General Lucius D. Clay became military governor of Germane after the Nazi-German capitulation.

When the USSR blockaded the city of Berlin in 1948-1949 Clay orchestrated the Berlin Air Lift, also known as the Raisin Bomping bringing food and supply to the city.

1962 Clay became Honorable Citizen of Berlin, 1965 he was awarded the German Grand Cross. Several streets and institutions in Germany carries his name.
