The Generalfeldmarschall-Rommel-Kaserne (barracks of the German army) is home to Panzerbrigade 21 "Lipperland" (armoured brigade). The brigade is part of the army's first division and part of Germany's rapid response force. The three biggest units are the Panzerartilleriebataillon 215 (artillery using the self-propelled howitzer Panzerhaubitze 2000), Panzerbataillon 214 (tank bataillon using the Leopard 2A5 and 2A6), and Panzergrenadierbataillon 212 (mechanized infantry using Marder 1A3). The barracks are Germany's biggest army base.
