On November 11. 1918 around 11:10 George Lawrence Price, a Canadian soldier, was on the way out of a house at the canal of the village Ville-sur-Haine near the canal when he was killed. He was the last Great War Commonwealth soldier killed in the war. He was buried at St Symphorien Military Cemetery near Mons, Belgium. Also in that cemetery is the grave of the first Commonwealth war dead, John Parr who was killed 21. August 1914 at Obourg, Belgium.

50 years later a memorial was placed on the house, but around 1980 the house was demolished to wide the canal and the memorial was placed here.
