Jacques de Molay (c. 1243 - 3/18/1314) was the 23rd and last known Grand Master of the Knights Templar. Pope Clement V dissolved the order in 1307 and arrested the Templars. Molay was imprisoned and later burned in front of Notre Dame in 1314.

The marker says: "At this location, Jacques de Molay, last Grand Master of the Knights Templar, was burned on 18 March 1314."
