Actually this map is slightly misleading. The image shown is the general area of the Titanic site. But the keel was actually laid in the Thompson Dock which is a few hundred yards to the north east of the centre of this image...
By the way, 2009 in the centenary of the laying of the Titanic Keel.

Hmmm. I based the map on the documentary Coast. In that show the narrator stands on this spot and points out the ramp in the image, etc. I guess they could have been wrong though.

Sorry, but I have to disagree with you. This slide show clearly shows this as the location. Check out the buildings in this image and the building just to the SW of the slip. What is your source?

Ok that looks correct... But lets make sure we are not talking at cross purposes. I am talking about the place where the keel was laid in the Thompson dry dock. Are you talking about where the Titanic was fitted out after she was launched?

Look at this picture and not the building on the left with the clock tower on it...(the chimney is no longer there now)

Now look at this "Live Maps" birds eye view of the Thompson Dock and note the same building on the left side of the dock.

kjfitz i stand corrected. You are quite right. After further research i see now that the Titanic keel was laid between the two concrete wedges as you say and that she was subsequently fitted out in the Thompson Dock after her launch.
It's still interesting to see the old photograph tally up with the present day Birds Eye view image.
