Sinclair purchased this mansion in 1920 from the Metropolitan Museum of Art who had been left property by railroad investor and banker Isaac Dudley Fletcher following his death in 1917. Following the Teapot Dome Scandal in the late 1920s, Sinclair sold the property to Augustus Van Horn Stuyvesant. Following Stuyvesant's death in 1953, the Ukranian Institute of America purchased the home for $225,000.
