On Sunday 2nd April 2023, Warren ZL2AJ, a New Zealand radio amateur reached the summit of Hauhungatahi and became the first to activate this summit on the amateur radio bands for the Summits on the Air (“SOTA”) group.

He made 12 contacts in total working on the 40 metre HF amateur radio band.

The summit of Hauhungatahi is 1521 metres (4990 feet) asl. It has a rating of 10 points on the SOTA group database.
