The statue of Henry Grattan, that stands facing Trinity College, is the work of John Henry Foley. It is cast in bronze and has was placed here in 1876. Henry Grattan was leader of the Patriot movement that won legislative independence for Ireland in 1782. Later he headed the opposition to the union of England and Ireland.
