The HMCS Onondaga was commisioned from 1967 to 2000. In 2006 the Site historique maritime de la Pointe-au-Père in Rimouski purchased the ship. During the second attempt the submarine slipped off the temporary marine railway and fell on its side getting minor damage to its hull.

The fourth and final attempt was successful and the submarine now sits on the beach.
