HMS Victory - famous Nelson Chequer

The HMS Victory is best known as the flagship of Admiral Horatio Nelson. The Victory was present at the historic and critical victories of the Battle of Cape St. Vincent and Trafalgar.

The Nelson Chequer was used by Admiral Nelson to distinguish the British ships when in the thick of battle with that of the enemies. The chequer was adopted by the Royal Navy and the US Navy adopted a similar color scheme in the War of 1812.
