Huacachina is a small oasis village surrounded by expansive sand dunes in southwestern Peru, approximately 3 miles (5 km) from the city of Ica. Although it is home to a permanent population of around 100 residents, Huacachina draws tens of thousands of tourists annually. The central lagoon serves as an ideal setting for relaxation following exhilarating activities such as sandboarding and dune buggy excursions. Interestingly, Huacachina was featured on the reverse side of Peru's 50 nuevo sol banknote introduced in 1991, highlighting its cultural significance.
