Isuzu replaced the Axiom, Rodeo, and Trooper with this mid-sized SUV related to the GMC Envoy for 2003. Since Isuzu left the Canadian market in 2002, the Ascender was never offered there. A long-wheelbase version of the Ascender was offered until 2006. After the end of production on June 6, 2008, Isuzu decided to withdraw passenger vehicles from the U.S. market at the end of January 2009 when it was determined that a replacement for this along with the i-Series wouldn't be profitable.
