His father, James D. Robinson III was the chairman of American Express from 1977 until 1993. While at American Express, Mr. Robinson played a prominent role in the RJR Nabisco leveraged buyout battle as chronicled in the book Barbarians at the Gate. Former Senator Fred Thompson played Robinson in the 1993 movie. He is a director of The Coca-Cola Company and Bristol-Myers Squibb. He is also a non-executive chairman of the Board of Directors for Bristol-Myers Squibb. He also serves on the Boards of Directors of First Data Corporation and Novell Inc., and is honorary chairman of the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. He is a member of the Business Council and the Council on Foreign Relations, and an honorary trustee of the Brookings Institution.
