Went by it Jan 28, 2007 and wondered about its use. Didn't stop or inquire in Madison...but was glad to see much on internet about both Jefferson Proving Grounds and Big Oaks NWR. Bob Wright Upper Peninsula Michigan

I live in Madison and have made several trips to the proving grounds. There are abandoned bunkers filled with grenade pins and rounds of unexploded uranium-tipped rounds scattered about. Although you would think these radioactive materials would be removed, or at the very least quarantined, the Army has recently ceased any attempts at making the grounds safe. For all we know the radiation has already made it's way into the soil or nearby creeks.

It’s funny that people think DU is dangerous because it’s radioactive.
One poster asks “how do we know the radiation hasn’t made it into nearby streams and creeks?”

The same way we know that even though water is made of hydrogen, it isn’t explosive.

The issue with the Madison area is it was once a very rich town. Plenty of old money in MadisonZ. Also plenty of drugs. Not much education.

Thus, questions like “how do we know that depleted uranium radiation isn’t going to make jog the epicenter of a zombie outbreak” are to be expected.

The place is not dangerous. The only dangerous thing is our excuse for a president....LETS GO BRANDON!
