Houghtaling is a managing partner of the law firm Gauthier, Houghtaling and Williams. The house was built from 1901-04 by New Orleans cotton king, W.P. Brown. He and his partners managed to corner the global cotton market in the first years of the 1900s, a maneuver that made Brown one of the wealthiest men in the South.
