John McConnell co-founded Medic Computer Systems, a firm that has developed software systems to help physicians manage their practices.

The company was sold in 1997 for $923 million. He later became a venture capitalist and co-founder/CEO/Chairman of A4 Health Systems, which delivers computer-based patient records to health-care organizations. That company was sold to Allscripts for $272 million in 2006.
