Katherine Johnson is an African-American physicist, space scientist, and mathematician who contributed to the United States' aeronautics and space programs with the early application of digital electronic computers at NASA. Known for accuracy in computerized celestial navigation, she calculated the trajectories for Project Mercury and the 1969 Apollo 11 flight to the Moon.

Taraji P. Henson will be playing Johnson in the upcoming film, Hidden Figures, based on the Margot Lee Shetterly novel about Johnson's, Dorothy Vaughn's, and Mary Jackson's contributions to the Project Mercury and Apollo 11 flights.
