On Saturday 31st December 2022, ZL2AJ, a New Zealand radio amateur reached the summit of Kaweka and activated this summit on the amateur radio bands for the Summits on the Air (“SOTA”) group.
He made 30 contacts in total working on the 2 metre VHF and the 40, 20 and 15 metre HF amateur radio bands.
The summit of Kaweka is 1724 metres (5656 feet) asl. It has a rating of 10 points on the SOTA group database.
