Kelly Field (SKF)

San Antonio, Texas (TX), US
aka KellyUSA, formerly Kelly AFB, KSKF
One of four Air Force bases in the San Antonio area, Kelly is a major maintenance center for the Air Force. Much of the operations of the base are being privatized, after realignment by BRAC in 1993, and the Air Force Base title will be dissolved in favor of a civilian name. Kelly is home of the San Antonio Air Logistics Center, one of five major Air Force maintenance and distribution centers in the country, and the primary maintenance depot for the C-5, C-17, and several other aircraft, as well as equipment systems, including the Air Force's nuclear weapons systems. Before realignmnet, Kelly employed over 14,000 people. Some of its functions were moved to the adjacent Lackland Air Force Base.

Zoom in to the flight line on the east side of the runwaya nd you can see that they are prepping for an Air Show. All the static displays are set up and some of the concesion stands. No crowds yet. I think the planes at the north end of the flight line are the ones that will be performing in the sir show.

This, I believe, is actually Lackland AFB

It seems the two might actually share the same runway or something

@samein234 Lackland AFB doesn't have a runway. Lackland is the only AFB where ALL recruits for the Air Force go through BMTS (Basic Military Training School) and then some stay to attend the Security Police Academy (now called Security Forces, I believe). It was an entirely ATC base (Air Training Command, though since many Major Commands were changed, dissolved, or created in the early 1990s I don't know exactly what ATC is currently called...I do know Strategic Air Command (SAC) was dissolved as well as Tactical Air Command (TAC) and the vast majority of those aircraft from both dissolved Major Commands were transferred to the newly formed Air Combat Command (ACC) and that the Military Airlift Command (MAC) was redesignated Air Mobility Command). The runways seen are those from the former Kelly AFB, now called Kelly Field, I believe, which used to be a major MAC base where major repairs and overhauls to the C-5 Galaxy took place. I can still hear those Galaxies taking off and landing all night long flying directly over my dormitory when I was in Basic Training on Lackland AFB. They flew so low you'd swear you could reach up and touch them and THEY WERE INCREDIBLY LOUD!! The great "Aluminum Overcast" as they were often called! I also still remember the incredible pride I felt as I'd be walking somewhere on base and those would be flying over on their final approach to Kelly AFB. It's actually pretty sad because Kelly used to be a very active flight-line with far more than just the C-5s coming and going. You could actually see the flight-line from certain places in Lackland and I specifically remember seeing the SR-71 take off from Kelly as well as the new (at the time) B-1B bomber. Other very common planes you'd see coming and going were many F-16s, as well as on a few occasions I saw a formation of A-10s and F-4 Phantoms. But, BY FAR, the highest amount of air traffic into and out of Kelly (at the time) were the Galaxies and the F-16s.
