Killing of Rayshard Brooks

Atlanta, Georgia (GA), US
On June 12, 2020, Rayshard Brooks, a 27-year-old black American man, was shot and killed by an Atlanta Police Department officer following a complaint about a man asleep in a car blocking a Wendy's drive-through lane. Brooks had resisted arrest and wrested a taser as he wrestled on the ground with two police officers. During a foot chase, Brooks fired the taser at one of the officers, who then shot at Brooks 3 times, striking him twice in the back. The killing was ruled a homicide by the medical examiner. Protesters later burned down the restaurant outside which the shooting had taken place.
