Eric I was King of Denmark from 1095-1103. On the way to the Holy Land on a Crucade he suddely died at Paphos and was interred at the St. Pauls Church in the ancient Chrysopolitissa Basilica. His exactly gravesite here is unknown. The memorial is the only to remember his grave here.

His Queen, Bodil Thrugotsdatter, continued to Jerusalem but died there too. Her gravesite is also unknown.
