This motorsports facility opened in 1960 as Lake Land Dragway and closed in 1979. The NHRA elapsed time record of 5.79 seconds was set here in 1973 by "Big Daddy" Don Garlits. The record stood for almost two years.

A 1.7 mile road course opened here in 1969. It went by the name of Shelby County International Raceway and used the drag strip as a main straightaway.

In 2009, the last remains of the track were removed for a mixed-use development plan.
