The C is for Cathedral High School, not Coronado. There is also an "I" above Hondo Pass in Northeast El Paso for Irvin High School.

The 'C' on the mountains is for Cathedral High School. Coronado, having been built in the early 1960s decided to not paint a letter on the mountain and instead chose to use a natural rock formation that looks like a Thunderbird, the school mascot.
