In June 1997 Intersputnik together with Lockheed Martin Corporation established the Lockheed Martin Intersputnik (LMI) joint venture. LMI was tasked with full-scale satellite communications services plan encompassing the manufacture and launch of the satellites as well as their long-term in-orbit operation.
