M1898 7-inch Siege Howitzer

M1898 7-inch Siege Howitzer (StreetView)
An M1898 7-inch Siege Howitzer is located in Eichelman Park at the shore of Lake Michigan. It was built in 1900 by Watervliet Arsenal and is one of only 30 ever made. They were designed for emergency coastal defense during the Spanish-American War. The cannon would launch its shells at a high trajectory with a steep descent at unseen targets. It has been on display here since 1920.
