The main developer of the Woodley Park subdivison--Harry L. Wardman--constructed this hotel in 1917, and architect Mihran Mesrobian added the central tower in 1928. The red brick and rounded balconies make this one of the most distinctive buildings in Washington, DC. The Wardman Tower has been home to more high government officials than any other apartment building in the city, including Dwight D. Eisenhower, Spiro T. Agnew, John Foster Dulles, Cordell Hull, Lyndon B. Johnson, Adlai Stevenson, and Earl Warren. Now part of the Marriott chain of hotels, the building was added to the DC Register in 1979 and placed on the National Register in 1984.
