Mauna Kea (Hawaiian: [ˈmɐwnə ˈkɛjə]; abbreviation for Mauna a Wākea) is a dormant volcano on the island of Hawaiʻi. Its peak is 4,207.3 m above sea level, making it the highest point in Hawaiʻi and the 2nd-highest peak of an island on Earth. Mauna Kea has a wet prominence 15th in the world among mountains; its dry prominence of 9,330 m is 2nd in the world after Mount Everest.
