The Mircea is a 3-masted sailing ship which dates from 1938. It was built for the Romanian Navy by the Blohm & Voss shipyard in Hamburg as a training vessel.

The vessel takes its name from the Wallachian Voivode, Mircea the Elder.

The Mircea is a ‘Barque’ whose over length is 82.1 metres with a beam of 12 metres. The mast tops are 42 metres above the deck.

The ship has a crew of 210 and when it is under full sail (there are 23 sails) can make a top speed of approximately 10 kn.
