Where today the baroque monastic church of pc. Gallen stands, built the monk Gallus at the beginning 7. Century for itself a cell. At his grave the alemannische priest Otmar created, 100 years later the first monastery according to the rules of the holy Benedikt. Under the protection of emperor and kings, led of high-talented abbotts it developed to an important mental center of the European evening country. High point was the so-called golden age of 9. up to 10. Century. The pin library and pin archives guard to today inestimable certifications from this time. In the pin library there is alone 2000 handwriting: more than 400 of it is old over 1000 years.
