Mort Marcus is co-president of Debmar-Mercury, an innovative leading media company specializing in syndication, network, cable and ancillary markets.

The brand-name syndicator produces and distributes The Wendy Williams Show and – together with Citylife Productions – Caught in Providence, returning for its second season in September 2019; has U.S. distribution rights to FremantleMedia North America’s Steve Harvey-hosted Family Feud; Comedy Central’s off-Netflix episodes of BoJack Horseman from Michael Eisner’s privately held media and entertainment company, The Tornante Company; as well as U.S. distribution rights to Schitt’s Creek, the critically acclaimed, Emmy Award-nominated half-hour, single-camera scripted comedy created by Eugene Levy and Daniel Levy, ranking as the No. 1 original series on Pop TV; the 10/90 sitcoms Debmar-Mercury pioneered including Tyler Perry’s House of Payne and spinoff Meet the Browns; Revolution/CubeVision’s Are We There Yet? (starring Ice Cube); and the Debmar-Mercury / Lionsgate Television comedy Anger Management (starring Charlie Sheen). Debmar-Mercury is a wholly owned subsidiary of Lionsgate (NYSE: LGF.A, LGF.B), a premier next generation global content leader.

A 2018 Broadcasting & Cable Hall of Fame honoree, Marcus previously served as president of The Walt Disney Company’s Buena Vista Television (BVTV) from 1994-99. During Marcus’ tenure leading Disney’s domestic television production and distribution division, he oversaw all of the syndicator’s programming, sales and marketing efforts, as well as pay-per-view and pay TV. Under his leadership, BVTV became a powerhouse in the syndication, cable, network and pay-per-view businesses.

Marcus also held other roles at Disney, including executive vice president, sales and development, for the Walt Disney Internet Group, the company’s internet division, playing a key role in Disney’s expansion to the internet and handling successful startups Disney.com, Family.com, Go.com and ESPN.com.

He also served as chairman of Miramax TV & Video for Disney’s Miramax Films, where he was chiefly responsible for handling the vast library of Miramax and its sister company, Dimension Pictures; distributing and marketing titles to the broadcast, cable and home video markets; and overseeing the company’s growing television production slate, shepherding original television fare such as Project Greenlight with HBO.

Before joining Disney, Marcus served as president of the telecommunications business at Qintex Entertainment. His earlier roles included serving as president at Colex and vice president of television sales at the Samuel Goldwyn Company.

Marcus received a bachelor’s degree in radio/television/film from San Diego State University.
