On Sunday, 29th December 2024, Ryan ZL1RKW/P, a radio amateur, from the Manawatū-Whanganui in the southern part of the North Island, New Zealand, reached the summit of Mount Hector in the Tararua Range in the lower North Island of New Zealand. He became the first to activate this summit on the amateur radio bands for the Summits on the Air (“SOTA”) group.

Ryan made 4 contacts from the summit working on the 2m and 40m amateur radio bands.

The summit of Mount Hector is 1,529 metres (5,016 feet) asl. It has a rating of 10 points on the SOTA group database.
