Proposed in 2007, constructed 2008-2009, the MRGO Closure Structure is a physical barrier across the Mississippi River Gulf Outlet Channel (MRGO) closing off the access of Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway using the MRGO. Intended to be a critical part of the yet to be implemented MRGO Ecosystem Restoration Plan.
