In late November 2020, a mysterious metal 'obelisk' was discovered in a remote part of the southern Utah desert by ranchers observing big horn sheep from a helicopter. The 12 foot tall, shiny metal pillar bears a striking similarity to one of the alien monoliths from the 1968 Stanley Kubrick film '2001: A Space Odyssey'.

Internet sleuths, however, were able to locate the object from satellite imagery and determine it was erected sometime between August 2015 and October 2016.
