Mystery Shrimp Boat Monument (Birds Eye)
Her name is Mystery. She was built of out of cypress in 1940 in Louisiana by boat builder S. Klonaris. Measuring more than 60 feet in topside length, 17 feet wide and weighing more than 40 tons, this wide-hulled boat was built for strength and durability. When first built, she was 'top of the line'. By 1964, only 25 years after her construction, she was an old lady. She had become obsolete. Her final captain was Billy Larry Ledet.

The former shrimp trawler mystery honors historic, colorful shrimp industry of Brazosport area. 60-foot boat, built of cypress timber more than five decades ago, brought in millions of pounds of delicious Gulf shrimp during her quarter-century career. Rigged in trappings of her youth, mystery is on display at head of Brazosport harbor channel on Texas 288.

How proud we are that Uncle Billy Larry Ledet was the last captain of this boat. It is a great story told within our family. I remember visiting the Mystery when I was a little girl with my Uncle Billy. We miss you Uncle Billy!

I was born in 1969,and as long as I can remember it's been a monument. The rumoe I heard forever,is that it would leave to shrimp, then they would find it abandoned.Like iI said THAT'S THE RUMOR.I know I got to taste Antonellis homemade Rootbeer, now that was a true treat, unlike today.lol.
