The Naval Facility Antigua was commissioned on 9 August 1956. The first Commanding Officer was LCDR R. Hinmon. As one of the Leeward Islands of the Lesser Antilles, Antigua is considered by many to have the best climate in the Caribbean. This island, discovered by Columbus in 1493, is comprised of large peaks, rolling hills, and fine sandy beaches accentuated by rough rocky coasts. After operating for more than twenty-seven years, NAVFAC Antigua was decommissioned 4 February 1984.

The Decommissioning date for NAVFAC Antigua is not correct. I was stationed there from 1990 to 1994

Agree. I did a Tropical Environment Survival School ("TEST") there in late 1988.

I was there as well in the mid. 90's, "TDY" when Clinton was planning something. Luckily it didn't happen. A small group from S.A? Tx, 40 Green Berets, 1 Seal and 2 of us. from Barksdale.

This was my first assignment after A School in the Seabees. I was there for 18 months between 1974-1975. it was totally awesome. I hated to leave.

I was there from 1977 -79 as a OT3 and absolutely loved it and also left the love of my life, she was a RM2 who transferred in 1980, got out briefly then she went back into the Navy, lost her from then.
