Oval Forum of Ancient Jerash

Jerash is a city in modern-day Jordan with a population of 50.745. Located next to the modern city, are the remains of the ancient city that has been part of the Hellenistic period, Roman period, Byzantine period, Early Muslim period, Crusader period and finally the Late Muslim period.

After the conquest of the Romans in 63 BC, Jerash and the surrounding areas became part of the Roman province of Syria. It would later join the Decapolis league of cities. In 90 AD, it was included in the Roman province of Arabia, which is had Philadelphia - modern-day Amman.

Today the many buildings in the city remain. These ruins include a hippodrome, an arch erected to Hadrian, an oval forum, theatres, several columns and inscriptions.
