The Coolidges lived here in 1927, while the White House was undergoing repairs. Charles Lindbergh was a guest here after his transatlantic flight.

This stunning Beaux-Arts mansion, designed by noted architect Stanford White to resemble a traditional Renaissance palace, is the only remaining mansion on a circle once surrounded by such magnificent homes. Built for Robert Patterson of Chicago, editor of the Chicago Tribune and his wife Elizabeth Medill Patterson, it was the scene of many lavish parties. Their daughter Eleanor “Cissy” Patterson, writer, socialite, and publisher of the Washington Times-Herald, lived here and carried on many of the family's traditions.
