Years ago I travelled in England with my girlfriend and wondered about the incredible number of railroads around London running in all directions. We thought that you could easily lost a train or two now and and then without anyone noticing. I think I have at last found a place where all those lost trains go...

In fact this is Pig's Bay, a large Ministry of Defense site near Shoeburyness. One of the current uses of the site, is for the storage and scrapping of old railway vehicles and there is really quite an large number of them around. It has its own private railway network, stretching for somewhere in the region of six miles. The site is also used by QinetiQ as a weapons testing facility, and has featured in a few episodes of the Channel 4 series Scrapheap Challenge.
