Port Roberts - 49th parallel

Point Roberts, Washington (WA), US
The sign says: Warning! If you are entering the United States without presenting yourself to an Immigration Officer, YOU MAY BE ARRESTED AND PROSECUTED for violating U.S. Immigration and Custom Laws.

On June 15, 1846, The British and the United States decided the 49th parallel would be the boundary between the two nations, giving the British all of Vancouver. Later as the Boundary Commission was surveying the line, the British government realized the peninsula of Point Roberts was actually on the American side. Captain James Prevost of the British Foreign Office requested Point Roberts be left to the British. Provost even offered compensation as the point seemed inconvenient for both parties. It is unclear what the response was, but Point Roberts became part of the USA.
