This Roman milestone was part of the Roman road known as Stanegate located in modern-day Northern England. The road had a total length of 38 miles (61 km) and was connected between two Roman fortresses; Corstopitum located in the east and Luguvalium located in the west. The road predates Hadrian's Wall which is slightly north of the site.

This milestone is located the east of the Vindolanda Roman fort just slightly south of Hadrian's Wall.
