Carnuntum was a Roman Legionary Fortress located in modern-day Austria. It was also the headquarters for the Pannonian fleet from 50 AD. It became the capital of the Pannonia Superior after the 1st century and housed 50.000 inhabitants.

Remains of a Roman villa, gladiator school, triumph arch and baths have been found at the site. An archaeological museum, Museum Carnuntinum, has been built on the site and houses an exhibition with the findings from the area.
