RWTH Aachen University is a research university located in Aachen with roughly 33,000 students enrolled in 101 study programs.

RWTH Aachen has achieved international recognition in several fields of engineering and science, especially mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, industrial engineering, computer science, physics, and chemistry. In a 2010 report, Wirtschaftswoche and Handelsblatt ranked RWTH Aachen the first in Germany in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and industrial engineering as well as the second in computer science. RWTH Aachen also stood on top among universities in Germany in the aforementioned fields of engineering and computer science in CHE University Ranking 2010 published by DAAD. The university is affiliated with a number of internationally noted scientists, including Nobel laureates in physics and chemistry.
