A six-unit hydroelectric dam which has a generating capacity of 60 megawatts is located 8 miles from Great Falls. There is a recreation island open between Memorial day & Labor day for picnic and family activities.
The dam was built in 1915. it is 1366 feet long and 61 feet high. It has a 7 mile reservoir which has a storage capacity of 5000 acre feet. This area is part of the Great Falls Portage National Historic Landmark which recognizes the areas significant to the Lewis & Clark expedition through Montana.
