San Carlos de Bariloche

San Carlos de Bariloche (StreetView)
The alpine-esque city center of Bariloche reflects the city's large German immigrant speaking population that dates back to the late 1800s. In the aftermath of WWII, many Nazi party officials fled Germany to Argentina and an untold number made Bariloche their home. SS Hauptsturmführer Erich Priebke and Nazi intelligence officer Reinhard Kops were both tracked down in 1994 living in the city. Both Josef Mengele and Adolf Eichmann are also reported to have lived here. Those who believe Adolf Hitler and Eva Braun escaped Berlin before the war's end, believe they made their way to Argentina via U-boot and lived on a large ranch just outside Bariloche before moving into their permanent home 80km north.
