Sand Mountain Lookout

Sand Mountain Lookout (StreetView)
The first lookout on Sand Mountain was constructed in the 1920s. In 1968, the building burned down , and a portable structure replaced this one until 1972. The current lookout was dedicated in 1990, when the Whiskey Peak Lookout from southern Oregon was repurposed by members of the Sand Mountain Society. The lookout is staffed in the summer by members of Sand Mountain Society and Forest Service rangers, and doubles as a lookout during high fire season and as an interpretive center for the regrowth of the area of the Big Lake Fire of 1967.
