The South Korean ferry Sewol sank on 16 April 2014 while en route to Jeju Island from Incheon. According to CNN on 17 April, 9 people are confirmed dead, 179 have been rescued, and 287 are still missing. Many of the passengers aboard the Sewol were high school students on a field trip.
